Thousands of Muslim faithful on Sunday gathered at the Abuja National Mosque to observe the funeral prayer of Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, drawing a large crowd of mourners, dignitaries, and sympathizers from across Nigeria. The solemn atmosphere reflected the deep respect and admiration held for the deceased, who was widely described as a woman of virtue, humility, and unwavering devotion to family and faith.

The funeral prayer, conducted in accordance with Islamic rites, was attended by prominent national figures, including Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, renowned business magnate Aliko Dangote, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Their presence underscored the significance of the moment and the stature of the El-Rufai family within Nigeria’s political and social landscape.

Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, the mother of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, passed away in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday after a brief illness. Her death has been widely mourned, not only by her immediate family but also by political associates, community leaders, and ordinary Nigerians who have extended heartfelt condolences.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a condolence message, expressed deep sympathy to the El-Rufai family, noting that the loss of a mother is one of life’s most profound and painful experiences. He prayed for Almighty Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus and to give the family the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. Former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Muhammadu Sanusi II was among other notable personalities who came to pay their last respects, reflecting the broad network of relationships and goodwill the El-Rufai family has cultivated over the years.
